About

R. B. Johansen is owned and run by Danish furniture designer Rune Bruun Johansen. Besides producing his own original furniture designs, Rune has collected and sold exclusive Danish design of the 20th century for the past two decades.

The knowledge and interest in the Danish design tradition is inseparably reflected in Rune Bruun Johansen’s own distinctive furniture designs, which range from unique design to high quality design series. He creates simple and elegant structured designs and combines functionality with a timeless expression. The exquisite materials used for his work are primarily centered around wood, stone and leather.

In 2015 R. B. Johansen relocated his studio gallery into a historically important 18th century Rococo building built in the years 1752-57 during the reign of King Frederik VI. In the beginning of the 1920s the main part of the building was renovated and refurnished by Danish architects Ivar Bentsen and Kaare Klint and since 1927 it has housed Design Museum Denmark. Kaare Klint himself established his own drawing office right above the rooms where R. B. Johansen’s showroom is located today.

The gallery setting was carefully chosen by Bruun Johansen to emphasize the composition of his designs and the context in which they exist. Regularly the gallery exhibition is updated with selected pieces of furniture designs exhibited along with Bruun Johansen’s own designs. The furniture chosen for his gallery reflects his distinctive understanding of the interplay between the qualities of the materials, the beauty and timelessness of the design and the uniqueness of the craftsmanship.
